Prostate Cancer is the most common type of cancer amongst men. Prostate Cancer occurs in the prostates which are a walnut-shaped glands responsible in producing a seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm. Prostate cancer that’s detected early — when it’s still confined to the prostate gland — has the best chance for successful treatment. Many prostate cancers are hostile and aggressive and may spread outside the confines of the prostate glands, which can be fatal. However, the prostate cancer survival rate is greatly improved with early detection and personalized treatment.
According to a leading urologist in the UAE ‘’prostate cancer is the third most common cancer among men’’. According to a report by the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi ‘’20% of the cancer diagnosed annually among UAE males are prostate cancer’’. Therefore, doctors and experts in the UAE are encouraging men between the ages of 50 and 70 to consult their doctors about the benefits of prostate cancer screening. Some experts in the UAE have also stated that’’ one or two new cases of prostate cancer are presented at Abu Dhabi hospitals each month and 50 percent of these cases are already in their advanced stages of prostate cancer’’.
The doctors and medical experts in the UAE, are motivating and encouraging men to go for an early detection screening for the prostate cancer as this cancer spreads silently and do no exhibit any proper symptoms. Prostate cancer can often be found early by testing for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in a man’s blood. Another way to find prostate cancer is the digital rectal exam (DRE). For a DRE, the doctor puts a gloved, lubricated finger into the rectum to feel the prostate gland.

According to a large study done in the United States, it was found that annual screening with PSA and DRE did detect more prostate cancers than in men not screened.
Researchers and Medical Experts believes that: A healthy diet comprising of low fat, high vegetables and fruits may help reduce your risk of developing prostate cancer. Routine screening, with PSA blood test and physical exam, is extremely vital to detect prostate cancer at an early stage.

There have been shreds of evidence where men feel embarrassment, shame, and guilt towards expressing about developing this disease. Some men falsely believe that developing prostate cancer will lead to erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence. However, there has been no evidence that states this wrong misconception right. Therefore, no one should be made feel guilty or ashamed instead people who have developed this disease should be understood, supported and most importantly they should be exposed to the right kind of treatment at the right time.
